The False Alarm Question
Across the two week test period, we logged how often each monitor generated a false alert or required intervention that was not related to the baby actually needing something.
Nanit generated the highest rate of app related issues, mainly failed reconnections after phone updates. The breathing detection itself was accurate. For a family that wants app access without Nanit’s price or reliability profile, Motorola. The hybrid handset and app models are the ones to look at.
For a family with multiple children spread across rooms, either VTech or Motorola with a dual camera setup. Both offer add on cameras that pair with a single handset, which is cheaper and simpler than running two independent monitors.

What We Would Not Do Again
Buy a wi-fi only monitor without a handset for a home with unreliable broadband. Two of the test households had wi-fi drops during the fortnight that took the video feed offline for periods long enough to matter.
