A lot of people think that waking up before the sun comes up is the key to having a day. But for parents who’re always busy especially moms who are millennials and do not get to sleep well waking up at 5am is not a good idea. It is just too hard. A good morning routine is not about waking up before everyone. It is, about making a plan that helps you have energy think clearly and feel calm in the time you actually have. The morning routine of a person should work with their life not make it harder. A good morning routine should fit into your life not be something that you have to fight with.

The first thing we need to change is the way we think about morning routines. We have to stop feeling like we need to be perfect. Morning routines are not something we compete with people about. They are things we do to help ourselves feel more in control and have a better day. Morning routines are like a plan to make our lives easier not something that adds more stress. Even if we only have ten minutes in the morning to do something on purpose it can really make a difference in how our day goes. The thing that matters most about morning routines is that they are good not that they are long. We should focus on making our morning routines good not on making them last a time. Morning routines are about quality not, about how they take.

A good morning starts with some light. Light tells your brain to stop being sleepy and wake up. You can do this by opening your curtains or going outside for a bit. Even sitting by a window helps your body know what time it is. Doing this every morning will give you energy than just drinking coffee. Hydration is something that people often forget about. When you wake up after sleeping for a hours your body is a little dehydrated. If you drink some water soon as you get up it helps your blood flow better and you can think more clearly. You do not have to make it complicated. Hydration is simple. Just drink a glass of water before you have your coffee. It will help your body get ready for the day. Hydration is a way to start your day.

When we move our bodies in the morning the movement should be gentle not extreme. Things like stretching, walking or doing five minutes of mobility work are great because they help wake up the body without making us feel exhausted. A lot of parents stop doing morning routines because they think mornings are for hard workouts that they just do not have the energy for.. The truth is, small movement counts. The main goal of morning movement is to get our bodies activated and ready for the day not to achieve some goal. Morning movement is, about activation, not achievement.
Mental space is really important like getting your body ready, for the day. When you start your day by checking your emails or scrolling through media it can be overwhelming. You are hit with many things that need to be done before you even get started. If you take a time to breathe write in a journal or just sit quietly it can make a big difference. Mental space matters and this small break can help protect your attention. It helps you to start the day on your terms instead of just reacting to everything that is happening. This way you can enter the day feeling more in control and mental space is what helps you do that.

Nutrition is very important for energy levels. When you do not eat breakfast you will probably feel tired and grumpy by the middle of the morning. Eating a meal that has protein and fiber in it helps you stay focused and feel good. You do not need to make something complicated. Nutrition is what matters. It is better to eat the same Nutrition every day than to try a lot of different things. Eating Nutrition regularly is more important, than eating a lot of foods. Planning really helps with decision fatigue. If you take a minute to look at what you need to do that day it gives you direction. Writing down the important tasks, like the top one or two things you have to do helps so you do not feel overwhelmed. When you have an idea of what you want to accomplish the day does not feel so crazy and you can handle planning and decision making for the days tasks and planning. Planning makes the day feel more in control than all, over the place.

Being flexible is just as important. Some mornings are going to be really crazy things will come up. They will be totally unpredictable. If your routine falls apart when things get tough it is not going to work in the run. The best systems are like building blocks. Each part can work on its own. If you only have time for water and some light that is still something. Your progress, with your routine is not ruined just because you have a bad day with flexibility and your daily routine. Flexibility and your daily routine are what matter.
Sleep is really important to start your day. If you wake up early your body does not get the rest it needs and that is not good, for you. A daily routine that does not let you sleep enough is not an idea. The best mornings are the ones that start after you have had sleep to feel okay and function properly. Sleep is the foundation of a morning and you need to get enough sleep to have a healthy morning.

Morning routines should be helpful to us not something that we feel like we have to live up to. Morning routines are there to make it easier for us to go from sleeping to doing all the things we have to do. When the things we do every day are simple and we can do them over and over they help us be consistent of feeling bad about ourselves. We do not need to wake up at 5am to have a day. We need things that we do every morning that take into account how much energy we have and fit with our morning routines and our real life. Morning routines are important. We should make sure they are good, for us and our morning routines should make us feel good.
A calm morning isn’t about productivity optics. It’s about entering the day with intention. Even short routines can anchor attention, regulate stress, and provide a sense of control. For busy parents, that quiet structure is more powerful than any early alarm clock.
